Geography
Our geography curriculum is designed to develop and strengthen children's knowledge and understanding of the world around them, from their local community to the wider world. We aim to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster a sense of wonder and awe for the natural and human-made environments whilst meeting the requirements of the national curriculum.
Across the year each year group will follow the pathways seen in the curriculum overview for geography and history. They will be taught in the set sequence as to enable the children to interlink their geographical skills with their historical knowledge and understanding of the local area and different time periods.
Throughout each term, children will engage in a range of activities designed to assess their understanding of geographical concepts, looking at both substantive knowledge and disciplinary knowledge. These will include
- map skills
- case studies
- discussions
- written tasks
As children progress through each year group, they will build upon previous knowledge to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
By the end of Year 6, children will be equipped with a solid foundation in geography, enabling them to navigate an increasingly complex world with confidence. They will be able to think critically about geographical issues, make informed decisions about their own lives and communities, and appreciate the interconnectedness of our global community.
Over the year we alternate the teaching of geography with history, so over the course of an academic year most year groups will study a range of work.
