Writing

At Shaw Wood, we want all children to be able to confidently and independently communicate their knowledge, ideas and emotions through their writing. It is our intent that our children understand the social functions of writing in order to write for a range of purposes and various audiences.  We want every child to develop a progressive understanding of: grammatical conventions; the way in which punctuation aids understanding; and how to apply spelling rules. We provide exciting writing opportunities and experiences to engage and enhance all pupils, in both writing and curriculum lessons. We want all children to acquire a wide vocabulary and encourage them to take pride in their presentation. We aim for all children to leave Shaw Wood with joined, legible and increasingly efficient handwriting. We want every child to have a good knowledge of phonics to springboard children to becoming fluent writers.
